At an early age I knew from making clay pots and selling them to neighbors on my wagon, that I could never work for the man. That evolved into a lawn mowing business later in high school. It was also during this time that I accomplished the title of Eagle Scout. Throughout college, I became involved in fitness and was so good at this craft that people began asking questions. At this point I was at a crossroads between wanting to pursue real estate or fitness/health. I ended up choosing real estate and ran a successful real estate brokerage, doing primarily in REO property listings assigned by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. During my time in real estate, I realized my fitness “hobby” was more rewarding than what I was doing in real estate. I decided to make a career change and pursue a career in health & fitness. I established a company, Butchered Bodies, 5 years ago and it is now one of the most successful personal training companies in Dallas.

I’ve got a knack for design and aesthetics and I put all of my knowledge and passion into making Recess look and feel like nothing else you’ve experienced.

Qualifications:
– 13 + Years of Training Experience, Certification from the Cooper Institute – Personal fitness specialist & Biomechanics of resistance training, CPR, Eagle Scout

After high school I served 8 years in the Marine Corps as a Martial Arts (MCMAP) and Fitness Instructor, among many other things, and had tours to Iraq and Africa with Special Operations Forces. I decided to take what I learned leading, training and motivating Marines and use it to start an all-military veteran personal training company, Tough Fitness in 2012 .

Since then, Tough Fitness has become the one of the most recognized personal training companies in Dallas.

I’ve always been someone who picked apart businesses and thought of what could be done better or differently. For 4+ years I’ve had a vision of what I thought gyms should look, feel and operate like. I knew there was a huge opportunity to do things different and revolutionize an industry that had remained unchanged for decades. I’ve spent the last 4 years pitching to hundreds of people in an attempt to make my vision a reality. Over this period I became all but broken from my inability to secure funding for what I knew would be an amazing success, but I never quit. In hindsight, it was a true blessing that I was forced to wait.

I do my best in chaos, and I always see opportunity in every situation. COVID brought Taylor and I the opportunity of a lifetime. While we’re not done yet, what we’ve created with Recess thus far is extraordinary. Sure I’m biased, but Recess is the best fitness club in Dallas.

I’m a small-town Texas girl who grew up knowing that I belonged in the city. I began playing violin at 6 years old. My love of music brought me to the Metroplex and UT Arlington, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Music with Teacher Certification EC-12. It was during my time at UT Arlington that I was introduced to fitness for the first time in my life! I was homeschooled in a small, rural town up until college – there were no PE classes or sports available!

Over the next few years, I fell in love with the gym and fulfilled my bucket list dream of competing in the NPC. Competing ignited a fire within me to pursue personal training, group specialization, and nutrition coaching certifications, ultimately leading me to make the bold decision to leave teaching and dive headfirst into a career in the fitness industry.

I found my professional home at F45, where I had the privilege of coaching and managing three studios, one of which ranked in the top 3% worldwide. About a year and a half into my time in management at F45, I received an exciting proposition from Evan and Taylor to oversee Recess and launch their innovative group training concept, Class at Recess. Having been a member for over a year prior to this offer, and seeing the growth potential, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse!

Outside the world of fitness, I love to travel, attend festivals/concerts, and get my foodie on! These passions complement my dedication to overall well-being and reflect my commitment to a balanced and fulfilling life.

Growing up, I was obsessed with multiple sports and quickly fell in love with the gym as a supplement to improve athletic performance. So much so that in middle school, my mom would drive me to our local high school and supervise my workouts so I would be allowed to train with a coach and the older kids. A few years later, I graduated high school with 9 varsity letters, was an ESPN Athlete of the week, named to the top 100 professional & amateur athletes in the state of Nevada, and began attending Army-West Point, where I fought for their Boxing Team. Following my first semester at Army, I wound up transferring to the University of Nevada, where I played for and captained a top-50 Division 1 golf program through my graduation in 2019.

Having a fitness-focused background that allowed me to play multiple collegiate sports highlighted the importance of health to me early in my life. I am incredibly appreciative that the gym has played such a large role for me, and it has inspired me to pursue a career in helping others with their individual fitness journeys.

Following my athletic career, I started at Recess and worked to become an In-House Trainer. I obtained my CPT through NASM, began taking Applied Physiology classes at SMU, and was instantly obsessed with sharing knowledge with others. When the Fitness Consultant position opened up, I was certain that it was a position that would allow me to help a greater number of people achieve their fitness goals. Getting to do this at with our elite training staff is something I greatly enjoy, and I look forward to Recess being a top destination for people to achieve higher levels of health.

ive only been to this gym a couple of times, but i must sing my praises for my trainer sarah g.!she is incredible knowledgable and was really helpful for me as a semi beginner. i had a lot of issues when it came to proper form and mysterious pain from certain exercises, but she was able to pinpoint my blockage and help me refocus towards the areas i lacked in. definitely been focusing a lot on which muscles i should be targeting. i esp like how she pushes me, and makes sure that i am doing each exercises with consideration to my back. it is clear she is passionate about her profession and wants to continue in this field. also she is body GOOAALLLLLS!the gym is also rlly nice as well, and there are a lot of amenities. i was very surprised to see advil in the bathroom. i also liked how they have a sauna in the locker room - that you can adjust the temperature for.the gym is pretty small, compared to traditional gyms, but i really liked how they had 3 racks of weights located in the front, middle, and back of the gym to spread out the people working out. the atmosphere is nice as well, the windows surrounding the gym let in a lot of natural light.

as you can see by all these pictures this is a beautiful gym...lots of equipment and never seems too crowded...I use a personal trainer here and am very happy with everything.....you don't feel like you are in a chain of gyms owned by a big company...the owners are there and treat you like family....parking is under ground so its perfect in the summer since your car will stay cool....my mother passed away last year and the owner and two of the trainers messaged me with condolences and u just don't get that everywhere!!!!!!

This is the first gym I’ve been to where I’m not extremely intimidated and nervous to work out by myself. I actually feel comfortable here which was huge for me. I’m still learning and still a newbie, but I don’t feel like I’m being judged whatsoever. The layout, equipment, staff, other gym goers.. everything is just wonderful. I’m glad my boyfriend introduced me to Recess ◡̈

The best gym in Dallas hands down. I’ve been here two years and love the equipment here, the staff and the other gym goers. I’ve made a few friends too as everyone is super welcoming. The decor in here is next level! It’s like exercising in a fancy fitness club in New York. With the addition of the dry sauna and the towel service, you definitely get that spa, fitness club luxury. I’ve recommended this gym to everyone I know as the equipment selection has definitely leveled up my workouts. Again, best gym in Dallas.

Hands down the best gym in Dallas! Every single detail of this gym is considered when creating the absolute best environment for its members. The equipment, the upkeep, the cleanliness, the locker rooms, the extra features like the free to use Theraguns, the saunas and even the tacos on Saturday mornings truly make this a one of kind gym. The staff is always so welcoming and friendly to every single person who walks in. You just can’t beat it! So happy to call Recess my gym home!

I love this Recess Gym! I'm new to Dallas and was looking for a non-corporate (LA Fitness/Crunch etc) style gym and Recess is perfect. Beautiful, meticulously clean with best in class equipment and 360 windows giving awesome views and this really cool indoor/outdoor vibe. It's simply a fantastic gym all around and their trainers and training packages are awesome. Kyle especially, he's been an awesome trainer. Def recommend- both gym membership and training packages are right on the money!

I rarely write reviews this long, but since Recess is such a fantastic gym, I feel they deserve it.Recess is a nice balance between upscale and gritty, with a clear emphasis on strength training. There are three separate dumbbell areas (not counting the ones in the small outdoor space), a turf area for sled pushes, two dedicated deadlift/Oly spots, a boxing area, and a wide variety of equipment (including some specialized/unique equipment you don’t see in many gyms, such as the belt squat). A good portion of the equipment is Rogue, and Hypervolts and Normatec boots are also available for members to use for free (a perk I haven’t seen anywhere else). The location is convenient, and parking is rarely an issue in the garage. The gym space is open, with windows all around, and some sweet views of Dallas. Also, though I haven’t met them, it’s clear that the owners truly care about the product and their members. Since I’ve joined, they’ve added new equipment and have installed small infrared saunas in the locker rooms. Another example is their recent decision to cap memberships to limit overcrowding at peak times (this was becoming an issue). Major props for this decision, and I truly hope this stays in place long-term!In fairness, I’ll also point out a couple of things that could be improved. These shouldn’t discourage anyone from joining the gym, but some attention here would make Recess even better. First, some machines/equipment appear older than others. For example, the large white multi-attachment cable machines/racks aren’t the smoothest to use, as the cables are a bit loose and gritty. They get the job done though. Secondly, 90%+ of members here are courteous and respectful, but you do see filming on the gym floor and in the locker rooms, as well as members “reserving” benches or machines with large duffel bags on the floor. In fairness, this happens at many gyms, but I feel the vibe of Recess seems to attract more of the “influencer” types than some other places. Again, nothing major, but something ownership may want to monitor. All said, Recess is an absolutely fantastic gym, with caring and involved ownership. I’m so glad I discovered this place, and plan to remain a member for a very long time. Cheers!

I decided to give Recess a try because it is close to my house & they are offering trial classes. The gym is very clean & well organized. It is not overly crowded which I prefer. The gym manager, Lilly, took me for a tour of the expanding property and she has been so kind & accommodating ever since my first visit. Now for the classes…I love them!!! I get my butt kicked and feel very accomplished afterwards. Each trainer has their own style so it keeps the class engaging. What I like most is that all of the trainers modify according to each student and they cue throughout for proper technique. I am a physical therapist and I’m pretty picky about trainers ~ So far I’ve worked with Eric & Chris and they rock! I also appreciate that the classes are small so each person gets personalized attention. I’ll be signing up for an annual membership in a few weeks! I’m pumped! Recess Fitness Club has definitely earned my business! Let’s Do the Damn Thing!!!
